1. Direction

The first and most important thing is the direction of the kitchen at home, the kitchen should be located between the eastern and southern directions, i.e southeast direction of the plot. 

If the kitchen is situated in any other direction like the North-Eastern direction, it may result in heavy loss for the family. 

Likewise, if the kitchen is located in the southwest direction, it could raise the chance of clashes within the family.

Whereas the kitchen in the North-west direction may result in an increase in expenditure.

2. Good Lighting 

Good lighting is very essential for a kitchen. To get proper natural lighting and proper ventilation, the windows should be located in the eastern direction. 

Artificial light in the kitchen should also be sufficient as per the area. As a kitchen is a place where we work more time while standing, and chopping and cooking vegetables, proper bright light is very important to prepare hygienic food.

3. Door Location

The door should be placed in the north direction of the kitchen, it's the best to place for the door. The size of the door can be a minimum of 2'6" x 7' if it is a closed kitchen. 

If it is an open kitchen, the entry should be avoided from the south. 

You should also take care that while preparing food, you should face towards the east and your back should not face towards the kitchen door.  

4. Wall Colours

The kitchen walls should be painted with warm colors,i.e red, orange, yellow, brown, etc. Blue and black shades need to be avoided. The blue color represents water, but the kitchen is located in the fire zone, so we can not use colors that represent water.

If the kitchen is not located in right place as per Vastu Shastra, you can use green color on the walls, as it is a remedy for improving Vastu, as green represents nature. 

5. Gas Stove or Cooking Stove Location

The cooking stove should be placed in the South-east or East corner of the kitchen area, as this direction is called Agneya Disha which is named after Agni. Do avoid placing gas stoves in North-Eastern corners. In the Hindu religion fire, god resides here. 

This direction has a natural source of fire as solar heat which is maximum when the sun is in the southern direction. Therefore when the sun reaches the South-east direction, it releases Vitamin D and F in the atmosphere. The importance of these vitamins is not measurable. 

6. Kitchen Equipment Placement

All heat-generating equipment like microwaves, hot cases, hotplates, geysers, mixer grinders, etc, should be placed in the Southern or South-east direction of the kitchen.

7. Cooking Direction

While preparing the food, the cook should face the East or South direction. Facing towards the North or West direction while cooking is not favorable. The cook or the housewife, should not face his/her back towards the kitchen door while cooking. 

8. Water Utility Directions

As the kitchen is located in a fire zone, and the water is opposite the fire, we need to take great care in placing water utilities. All water arrangements should be placed in the north or North-East directions, as this is considered a very auspicious element. 

Also, ensure that all the water elements should be situated to the left of the gas stove. The water utility placement should be in such a way when you use the gas stove for cooking, the washbasin, sinks, and drinking water should be on your left. 

9. Refrigerator Placement

Avoid placing the refrigerator in the kitchen, if you would like to keep the refrigerator, keep it in the North-west direction of the kitchen. As it is a water element, should be kept far from the South-east direction. Fire and water should not get clashed. 

10. Kitchen Cabinets Placement

You can design your cabinets or slabs for storing all heavy grains and raw foods in the South, West, and South-west directions. This is because as per Vastu Shastra rules, this direction should be filled with heavy objects. 

the southern and western walls should be made heavy by keeping heavy groceries and utensils. Cabinets and Kitchen cupboards can be placed here.  

11. Avoid Kitchen Below Stairs

Never plan kitchen under staircase and adjacent to toilet or bathroom. 

12. Avoid Mandir Inside 

The mandir or any kind of goddess photograph should not be kept inside the kitchen.

13. Cleanliness

You should always keep your kitchen clean and hygienic, to avoid any kind of health disease.
