The Living Room is the main part of the house where every member of the family is going to live in and it is the most flexible room. The Living Room is the biggest in the whole house and it has the best exposure. In modern-day times, the decor and arrangements in the house reflect the personality and taste of the person living. In this room, both personal and social activities are carried out. 

Here, the family members gather to talk, work, play, read, and also to entertain friends and relatives. Regular activities like TV watching or any occasional activities like giving parties informal activities and formal ones, noisy or quiet ones takes place here.

Therefore, it is necessary to allow this area of the house as much space as possible. It is only because several activities take place there at the same time. So to make it comfortable, it has to be spacious.

    • Comfortable seats for all
    • The arrangement of sofa seats should be done in a circular or rectangular pattern so that each person can look at each other easily and talk without having to raise their voice. For normal hearing, there should be a space of a maximum of 3m (10ft) between the conversation group.
    • Need surfaces like tables to keep the things on.
    • A carpet or rug to bind the whole group together
    • A guest bed for an occasional guest is found most necessary in the small urban homes of today, the diwan or sofa cum double bed or single bed serves this end.

    The most important thing for good living is air circulation and sunlight. We all humans need these things. You should never neglect these elements because this space (Living Room) is for more people to accommodate. Proper airflow and light will keep your mind healthy and will make you spend more time with your friends, relatives, and family.

    Doors 

    We all know what is door and how it works. I will just try to tell you the type and sizes of doors you can use for your living rooms. There are various types of doors with different Designs/Patterns, Materials, and Sizes.

    The size of the door really matters most because it's a gathering place where several activities take place as I have discussed above and also the biggest room in the house or apartment.

    Therefore the recommended minimum size of door for a Living Room is 3ft - 4ft (90cm- 120cm)

    I'll list out some of the affordable doors you can use. While there are many choices available as per budget.

    • Glazed Doors are made up of glass which is bordered by wood or any other materials.
    • Moulded Panel Doors are mainly made up of wood and many other types of materials are available.
    • Sliding Door is a good choice for large size rooms. It is made up of glass, wood, aluminum, and other types of materials. 
    • Pocket Doors are like sliding doors, where these doors go inside the walls groove and make them invisible.  
    • Glass Doors are also made up of glass, but it comes with different pattern and textures which are also bordered by wood and other types of materials.

    Window 

    The most important element which should never be neglected is it helps to maintain the room temperature with free entrance light and air.

    Recommended minimum number of windows is Two and the size of the window should not be less than 4ft x4ft (120cm x 120cm).

    If I talk about space planning for living, you must make sure the circulation of movement should be spacious. Avoid sharp turns. Make sure the width of the pathway should not be less than 2ft.

    • The space between each sofa is not more than 10ft for better conversation, minimum you can keep a 5ft gap between two sofas.
    • Should not have direct access to the bathroom or WC, except through a lobby.
    • The living Room Should be well lightened and well ventilated.
    • Should be adjacent to the dining hall and near the kitchen area.
    • Large windows minimum 3ft sill levels.
    • A Direct entrance to the living room is preferable through a veranda or a lobby.

The Living Room is the largest in the whole house because most of the activities take place in this room. Therefore, space planning needs to be done properly.
