How To Ease Pandemic Stress With Hobbies?

Few of you might not be in a job which you wanted in your childhood or at a particular moment of your life. However, if you are interested in the field then you are one among 1000’s. Most of you must be sitting and thinking about your future and wondering what you are doing with your life and what you can do to make it a better living.

With most of our work going digital, our screen time has been increased. In addition to this, we spend our free time on digital platforms and watching television which has doubled/tripled the screen time as compared to our earlier lifestyle. This in return is affecting our eyesight, thought process, physical activity, and the connection with our hobbies and nature.

    Effects In Our Life

    We know that our lives are getting affected, we are gaining weight, we are becoming lazy, and we also know that somewhere inside we do feel the need of going out or pushing ourselves to do something innovative. However, we all hold a character labeled “but” in our lives that can make or break our future.

    Most of Us have desires to go out for,

    • Workout in the gym again but they aren't open yet.
    • Cycling but it's not a good time.
    • Trip but, it's scary to go anywhere now.
    • Tour with friends, we need to follow social distancing

    Pandemic really affected all human activities.

    How To Utilize Free Time?

    I want you to close your eyes and think about what you like doing in your free time apart from watching screens. What helps you uplift your mood?

    Once you have your answer, ask your roommates, family, friends, or your life partners about their hobbies, discuss their interests. Also, do not forget to ask elderly parents about their lifestyle before the digital age, if you happen to meet any, you will be amazed to listen to their stories. It will open your mind and help you visualize the same. Make a note of all of the hobbies and interests you came across.

    The answers might include, playing cards, drawing/ sketching, reading novels, playing cricket, gardening, swimming, running, working out, dancing, and a lot more.

    So what now?

    Importance of Hobbies

    In the new era of the pandemic wave, we are forced to stay inside our house. Because of this, a lot of us are struggling to stay together with families or friends. It's getting really tough to handle the outburst of parents/ grandparents or let's say in-laws or friends for a longer duration. The same case may occur opposite of what you read. Whichever the case is, we are getting affected emotionally and mentally.


    So, hobbies play a major role in relieving our mental stress and keep us engaged with something we really enjoy doing for a longer period, which gives us a feeling of joy and satisfaction.


    How to start choosing your Hobbies?

    When we think about spending our free time, we get a lot of ideas in mind but never work on them. We miss something even if we start with point A.

    So take a notebook and a pen, write down your interests and stick them on a wall.

    When you get free time, start implementing that one by one. Start with gathering the pointers for initiating your process of habitation (hobby+implementation)

    For example, if your first interest is mentioned as organizing your living space and making it fun to stay at, then, you must start thinking about the ways to do it.


    Example to start with implementing your hobbies:

    Try to organize your Bedroom,

    • List down the boring and interesting things at your place.
    • Think of, how can you make boring looks of material interesting.
    • Make a list of things/cloth you don't need anymore.
    • What additional stuff will you need to make your place a happy place to stay at.
    • If you don't get an idea by yourself, get ideas on google search.
    • Start implementing your ideas into reality. For e.g., convert your bulb into a different color, paint a portrait, create a flower vase, organize pictures of yourself on a wall, and a lot more.

    How do you start working on your hobbies?

    • List out the activities you did till your age what really made you happy and satisfied.
    • Mark out the major activities you can still do with dedication and passion.
    • Start working on it daily and make improvements.

    Another way would be to analyze, what makes you get a habit of watching a movie or a series.

    In a similar way, if you gained interest in at least one hobby,  you get to practice it, you start learning, writing about it, you practice it with dedication just the way you complete every Netflix series with dedication.

    Hold on to that urge that you feel when you can't complete that one series or movie and give a push to yourself on working on that one hobby you chose.

    Just one time I would say choose your hobby besides Netflix, tv, or any social channels, and work on it with dedication. It will not only help you learn something new but also, help you relax, focus, beat mental and emotional stress, depression, and most importantly you will start managing your time smartly.

    Where does your hard work pay?

    You do your regular job because you are stuck with it and do not have an option. That is because it fills your pocket every month and helps you with daily needs.

    Because you aren't getting any return from doing these small things to start with your free-time activities, you might lose interest in between and think that your work isn't taking you anywhere.


    However, If you see from a long run you start to gain mental strength and tackle difficult scenarios, it‘ll make your mind think creatively, it‘ll help you beat stressful situations with peace, your patience level will start improving, you will see positivity surrounding you.


    Start investing in yourself now..!

    Organizing your living place was just an example to start with along with which you start connecting your other interests. If you have an interest in Painting, then get your paintbrush and a sheet and start filling colors, if you want to do gardening then get pots and soil and start gathering knowledge about the plants.

    This way, you need to start working on your hobbies and implement them one after the other. You will soon be able to recognize what interests you the most and you will start polishing and mastering a lot of skills that will bring a huge change in your future.
